Raid Australia 2028 – The Eclipse Raid
Detailed planning has started for Raid 2028 – The Eclipse Raid to be held in July 2028, starting in South Australia and traversing the Binns Track system into the Northern Territory, with an excursion into the Bungle Bungles in Western Australia before returning to the NT.
Why the name Eclipse? On 22nd July 2028, a full solar eclipse crosses Australia. The path of totality (moon obscuring the sun totally) is 180km wide. Raid Australia 2028 will be positioned in that path of totality to experience the maximum impact of the eclipse. We are expecting this to be a major highlight of the Raid: hence the adoption of the name Raid Australia 2028 – The Eclipse Raid.
The Raid committee will undertake a survey of the planned route in three weeks to ascertain the most suitable routes, camping locations, fuel requirements etc. Whilst the survey is conducted by a small group of committee members, we are looking for a 4WD to join us as a support vehicle as our planned support vehicle driver cannot join us due to a medical issue. Registrations for Raid Australia 2028 will open in 2027.
Nearest port for anyone bringing a car in from overseas is Adelaide, South Australia. For those considering bringing a car into Australia on a carnet de passage, remember it is a very long and expensive exercise due to the Biosecurity requirements of Australia
Once the survey is completed we can then progress with production of the Raid Handbook and the cost to participants.
The Raid will be limited to a maximum of 40 cars (28 participated in Raid 2024).
