Baldivis is approximately 40 km south of Perth in an outer suburban area. All raiders are booked into unpowered tent sites in the camp ground for the night of Saturday 1 August 2020. The camp ground has a camp kitchen and laundry. If you want to book extra nights prior to 1 August or you want to upgrade your accommodation, you may contact Golden Ponds direct to arrange this, at your expense.
Other accommodation available includes apartments, cottages chalets and budget units.
If raiders wish to do any last minute checks on their cars prior to setting off, there will be a couple of nearby venues available with hoists. There will not be any compulsory scrutineering, as raiders are expected to have well-prepared vehicles already.
The Raid first dinner is booked for Saturday evening 1 August at the Golden Ponds Function Centre, where the Raid will provide a 3 course sit-down meal. We will also meet to arrange teams, receive road books and other info and for a general initial briefing about the Raid.
The Raid will leave Baldivis on the morning of Sun 2 August and will head for Hyden, Wave Rock and a bush camp on the Sunday night. All route details will be contained in the road book supplied at the start.
Other Raid Information
It will be important to travel light on this raid, as there will be a stretch from Ilkurlka Roadhouse (Western Australia) to Coober Pedy (South Australia), where there are no facilities or towns and where we will need to carry our own fuel, water and food. The distance to be covered on this stretch is about 800 km and is expected to take about 5 days.
The Raid Committee recommends that most standard 2CVs will need to carry a full tank of fuel plus another 40 litres of fuel and 20 litres of water. We also recommend that the extra fuel be carried in smaller containers (say 5 or 10 litres) to enable easier packing and refuelling and better weight distribution in the car. Fuel and water will be available at the Ilkurlka Roadhouse.
Information about what else to carry in the way of tools and spares is contained elsewhere in this site.
We will issue more bulletins and info through this site and the Raid Australia Facebook page as the need arises.
