Water

When undertaking any outback travel you should always carry a supply of emergency water. In emergency situations you consume much less water than in active situations, but consider at least 5 litres per person. If the route becomes impassable due to weather, you need to have enough water for the occupants of the car.

You could sit quietly enjoying the breeze in the 2CV all day and not feel very thirsty at all, or you could spend all day pushing the cars through boggy sandy sections and 10 litres would not quench your thirst.

The water requirements for the Raid proper are set out in the guide book, so that you can carry enough for the duration of the next stage prior to departure. The longest period of time between opportunities to restock is four days.

You should carry enough water containers to carry the maximum amount of water required for the occupants of your car for four days, plus your emergency water.
